Q: What does "data conversion" mean?

A: Conversion of data from one digital format to a new digital format is referred to as data conversion.


Q: What types of Media, containing the legacy data, do you prefer?

A: Magnetic tape, Disk, Optical platter or CD

Q: How can we be sure that the converted data is accurate?

A: After data has been converted to the proper format, a rigorous testing program is administered. Data acceptance criteria are the guidelines that indicate the allowable error that will be considered acceptable in the data and the database. These criteria help ensure that every reasonable effort has been made to provide users with the highest quality data product available given money and schedule constraints.


Q: How long does it take to convert a file?

A: File conversion throughput is dependent upon several factors. These are, among other things, file size and complexity, CPU speed, available memory (especially with very large files) and the number of fonts you have installed (beyond the default font selection).


Q: What happens to the legacy back-up data submitted to VIT?

A: The customers legacy back-up database is given back to the customer after the conversion is completed.
